Location
Located at 52 Davis Avenue, one of the most prestigious and leafy avenues in South Yarra, Her Majesty′s development is centrally located in the heart of South Yarra within walking distance of Chapel Street, Fawkner Park, Royal Botanic Gardens and many other amenities. It only takes a one minute walk to the South Yarra train station, and yet the building is isolated from any railway noise or unsightly views.
Heritage
According to history records, the first hotel to operate at the corner of Toorak Road and Great Davis Avenue Road opened in 1870. Known as the Royal Standard, it is reported to have been a sturdy brick hotel on stone foundations. The hotel then went through a quick succession of names, all of which were influenced by patriotic sentiment. For instance, it traded as the Great Britain between 1874 and 1878, and then as the Palace until 1887. In 1889, less than twenty years after it had first been constructed, the hotel was rebuilt as ″Her Majesty′s Hotel″ for SL. Chapman Esquire. Wilkinson & Permewan (1889-1902, of note for their houses and hotels) and CB Abbott were listed as the joint architects, and tenders for the works were called in February 1889.
The Vision
Photo of the Current BuildingOur vision is to transform Her Majesty′s Hotel from its current ageing state to once again regain its yesteryear glory while expanding it to include luxurious residences, prestigious offices, designer shops and an up-market restaurant. Each apartment will have a store room included near the car parks and bike racks to take advantage of many bike tracks around South Yarra.
A development worthy of ″Her Majesty′s″ name.
The Transformation
The new development will add back some of its glorious original features which have been lost in time, including the turret and the verandah. The heritage facade will be totally restored and rejuvenated. The inner of the building will be demolished to make way for a new modern development, including a basement car parking and three additional levels of luxurious apartments.
